Everything Everywhere All at Once is one of those movies that hit home in more ways than one. Maybe it's because it's a majority Asian cast but the struggles that Evelyn and her daughter, Joy, faces felt really relatable. Their mother daughter relationship and the strain it had felt like it mirrored mine with my parents when I was growing up. The growing pains that came with parents being immigrants and you being first gen. The conversation between them, where Joy wants Evenlyn to let her go, but Evelyn choosing love, choosing Joy her daughter and joy itself in all timelines was a very emotional thing. Evelyn seizes love and joy, the things that make life worth it. Rock Evelyn goes tumbling after Rock Joy. Movie Star Evelyn asks Waymond to wait etc. It makes you think in the perspective of our parents. The lives they never got to live, sacrifices and such. In a way it's a bit love language from older generations where "I love you" comes through their actions than with language. They can't/don't know how to communicate well and it can be damaging and hurtful. And how we as children feel estranged from our parents because of their own baggage and things, even though you love them so much and they love you. I think this movie captures it really well. The choreo was really fun and I also love Waymond, Evelyn's husband, so much! He felt especially relatable as I'm also a soft-hearted person and sometimes it feels like a bad thing/way to be. But he remains kind throughout and it was a very heartening thing to witness. Him choosing to do mundane awful taxes in the movie star universe, because it meant being with Evelyn, was also really touching. Choosing love is really touching!
